Cosmati

cosmati marble floorCosmati work takes its name from the Cosmas family, who specialised in this type of architectural inlay. Its heyday was around 1100 - 1300 in Rome. Most commonly seen in floors, it involves intricate geometric patterns made up from coloured marble or other stone (and sometimes glass).
