Roots, Routes, Roots, a community mosaic in South Norwood

This large, nine-panel mosaic was a project by local schools and members of the community of South Norwood in south east London, under the guidance of Gary Drostle and Rob Turner. After nine months of consultation, design and construction, it was installed on a wall under the railway bridge over Portland Road, in July 1997.

The panels incorporate historical and everyday themes - the origins of settlement of the area; the comings and goings of people by various means of transport; and cultural, literary, agricultural and industrial heritage.
